BORN IN 1969
FORGED IN DUST

Founded by the Lusaka Motor Club with John Ireland as Clerk of the Course, the Zambia International Motor Rally started as a brutal 2,000-mile test of machine and spirit. It survived an economic crisis hiatus (1977-1984) and emerged as one of Africa's veteran rallies.

The rally travels north from Lusaka to Chisamba, where the competition stages unfold across savanna, dust bowls, and treacherous gravel. It's not just a race—it's a battle against the Zambian elements.

2025 RALLY CANCELLED

The Zambia Motor Rally, a cornerstone of the Africa Rally Championship since 1969, has been officially shelved for 2025. The Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) cited unsustainable FIA affiliation fees and logistical complications as the primary factors.

ZMSA President Sam Ching'ambu confirmed Zambia will not send drivers to compete in the ARC this year— a rare absence in the nation's rallying history. The association is targeting a return in 2026 with restructured sponsorship frameworks.

"The federation aims to work closely with the private sector and potential sponsors to ensure that Zambia retains its place in the prestigious ARC series."
